Prayer Flags are inscribed with auspicious symbols, invocations, prayers and mantras. For centuries, Tibetan Buddhists have hung prayer flags outside their homes and at places of spiritual practice for the wind to carry the beneficent vibrations across the countryside. Prayer Flags are said to bring happiness, long life, and prosperity to those who hang the flags and those in vicinity.
Prayer Flags can be placed inside the home to increase the spiritual atmosphere our outside, where the wind can carry the prayers. There are five different colours in a set, and they are generally shown in the same order and represent the five elements.
Yellow represents the Earth element
Green represents the Water element
Red represents the Fire element
White represents the Air/Wind element
Blue represents the Space element
Hanging Prayer flags is a small gesture that constantly reminds Buddhists if their spiritual aspirations form love, happiness, and compassion, and also deepen the same, slowly and incrementally. It is understood by Buddhist practitioners that enlightenment will come of sustained effort over time.
